A leaked list of 50,000+ numbers exposed how Pegasus was used to select journalists worldwide for targeting. Amnesty's Security Lab has since forensically confirmed infections of reporters in India (2023) and Serbia (2025), among others — phones turned into live microphones and exfiltration devices.
Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International staff have been confirmed among Pegasus targets, alongside human-rights defenders in Morocco and beyond — the very people documenting abuses, surveilled by those they investigate.
